Island Peak, known locally as Imja Tse, stands at an impressive elevation of 6,189 meters (20,305 feet) and is one of the most popular trekking peaks in the Everest region. Its name was coined by Eric Shipton’s expedition in 1952 because it appeared as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. Situated in the heart of the Khumbu region, Island Peak is a sought-after adventure for both novice climbers and experienced mountaineers looking to gain technical climbing experience.
The peak not only offers thrilling climbing experiences but also provides some of the most stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, and the iconic Ama Dablam. Due to its moderate technical difficulty and accessibility, it is often combined with a classic trek to Everest Base Camp, allowing climbers to acclimatize properly before attempting the summit.
