Trip Overview

Island Peak, known locally as Imja Tse, stands at an impressive elevation of 6,189 meters (20,305 feet) and is one of the most popular trekking peaks in the Everest region. Its name was coined by Eric Shipton’s expedition in 1952 because it appeared as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. Situated in the heart of the Khumbu region, Island Peak is a sought-after adventure for both novice climbers and experienced mountaineers looking to gain technical climbing experience.

The peak not only offers thrilling climbing experiences but also provides some of the most stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, and the iconic Ama Dablam. Due to its moderate technical difficulty and accessibility, it is often combined with a classic trek to Everest Base Camp, allowing climbers to acclimatize properly before attempting the summit.

Package Highlights:

  • Stunning Panoramic Views: Experience 360-degree views of some of the world's highest peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makalu.
  • Cultural Exploration: Immerse yourself in the unique culture of the Sherpa people, visit ancient monasteries, and witness traditional Himalayan lifestyles.
  • Adventure in the Khumbu Region: Trek through the famous Everest region, visiting popular destinations like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Monastery, and Dingboche.
  • Experience Technical Climbing: Cross challenging crevasses, scale ice walls, and trek through glacial moraines, making it an excellent introduction to Himalayan climbing.
  • Helicopter Return Option: For those looking to shorten the trek, a helicopter return from Gorakshep or Dingboche back to Lukla or Kathmandu is a great option.
